Minister for Veterans and People visits Bassingbourn to see SFA improvements

The Minister for Veterans and People, Louise Sandher-Jones visited Bassingbourn Barracks on 6 November to see first-hand how service personnel and their families are set to benefit from the biggest transformation of military housing in more than 50 years, as part of the new Defence Housing Strategy announced earlier this week.

Rapid improvements are underway to raise the minimum standard of 1,000 of the worst military family homes and almost half of the homes in Bassingbourn Barracks have been identified for upgrades. This includes installing new heating systems and solar panels to improve energy efficiency and reduce energy bills for families.

Louise Sandher-Jones, Minister for Veterans and People, said:

“Our forces and their families make extraordinary sacrifices, and understanding their lived experiences helps ensure we deliver the homes they truly deserve. Bassingbourn Barracks is a great example of the Defence Housing Strategy in action, helping to transform our heroes and their families’ quality of living and saving them money on their energy bills.”

The Defence Housing Strategy sets out a fully costed ten-year programme to reshape, redevelop and modernise the Defence housing estate to best meet the realities of modern service family life. Over the next ten years we will be giving over 40,000 military homes a makeover to ensure you have what you need for comfortable modern living.
